PDF export - extra features - feedback please

One of the main outcomes from the survey was the importance of PDF output to many users, and their need for extra features to be supported.

While the PDF output supports all basic document features, ie paragraphs, tables, images, headers/footers etc, there is a 'long tail' of things which can appear in Word documents which it doesn't support.

Features which aren't supported include:

- maths formulas (equations)
- Word Art
- shapes
- Smart Art
- charts

(there are other things as well, but these are the ones I want to focus on for the purposes of this post)

Suppose I could make a Word add-in which automatically converted the above to plain old images. Then when the resulting docx was run through docx4j to create a PDF, it would encounter and use these ordinary images.

Would this be useful? I appreciate it is not a solution for everyone. What I'm wondering is how many people it would actually help. (For it to be helpful, you'd have to be able to pre-process the troublesome document in Word as described above, either at the time of creation, or ad-hoc).

So that's the reason for this poll. If an add-in like this would be useful to you, please respond accordingly. You have to be logged in to vote.

If you wish to discuss further, please feel free to reply to this post.

thanks .. Jason
