Hi all

I've put together a survey which should provide an insight into the needs of docx4j users, which will in turn help me to evolve docx4j to better meet your needs.

Please take 15 mins or so to complete the survey. It can be found at http://www.plutext.com/limesurvey/index.php?sid=64431&lang=en

Even if you have just started using docx4j, your response would be valuable (first impressions matter)

Thanks very much.

kind regards

Jason

I've closed the survey now; thanks to everyone who responded to it.

Future surveys will be much shorter, I promise! Now that we've covered all the general issues, future surveys will be targeted at particular issues. For example, lots of people said PDF output was important to them. So I'm likely to run another survey soon, specifically on how the PDF output could be improved.

I'm not going to attempt a comprehensive summary of the survey results here. I'm working through the results, and will post on specific matters.

However, a few points which stood out:

- PDF output is critical to many users
- interest in pptx4j; suggestions to add support for xlsx
- add support for merging documents

- document content is predictable for roughly half users
- reading legacy binary .doc is important to a significant portion of users

- users are running Windows as expected, but a lot of users are running Linux (similar to Eclipse user survey findings)
- most using Eclipse as their IDE
- most happy with log4j (we may consider slf4j in the future)

- good feedback on documentation, ease of use
- interesting material regarding business model required to provide a strong foundation for docx4j

So thanks again, and stay tuned...
