MS Word not picking up OpenDope Authoring Word Add In

Hi,

I am having an issue with the OpenDope Authoring Word Add In where I was able to install on my laptop successfully,
However, MS Word does not pick it up. There was no OpenDope tab or no such Add-In added when loading MS Word.

The MSI I used was from https://www.opendope.org/downloads/Open ... nSetup.msi

My machine specs is as below:
Edition Windows 11 Enterprise
Version 24H2
Installed on ‎5/‎20/‎2025
OS build 26100.3775
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.26100.66.0

.NET info:
Release 533320
Version 4.8.09

MS Word build:
Microsoft® Word for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2402 Build 16.0.17328.20820) 64-bit

In Word, if you go to File > Options > Add-ins, what do you see?

There is also the Manage: " COM Add-ins" Go button there...

You may find logging at C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Temp\plutext.txt ?

There is nothing in Com Add-In. I tried look at whether it is some disabled, no luck either.
I do not see a log file there. I think this is because the Add In is not picked up by Word at all.

Hi Jason,

I had found a workaround it seems.

Steps after I have "installed" via the MSI were:
- Double click on the OpenDoPE_Wed VSTO in C:\Program Files (x86)\Plutext\OpenDoPE Authoring Word AddIn
- Install it
- Open a Word, Opendope will show up, however, when I click on show tags > show xml, it gives an SharpDevelop error
- after that, I copy over the resource folder from the C:\Program Files (x86)\Plutext\OpenDoPE Authoring Word AddIn\data folder to C:\<user>\AppData\Local\Apps\2.0\AB60T5QV.2O1\ZHRWZ16B.DBP\open..vsto_5cb908148f053725_0001.0001_3846f8aee7a58cac\data folder
- Close and reopen word, click on show tags > show xml, it gives a "Can't load external tools configuration file" warning
- I edit the xml and bind a text and save. It works.

Do you have any suggestions or thoughts on if there is root cause resolution to prevent warnings?

Hi Jerry, a belated note. The 2 current authoring addins are listed at https://opendope.org/implementations.html

1. An authoring tool aimed at less technical users is available from http://www.opendope.org/downloads/autho ... /setup.exe This tool uses the drag/drop approach Microsoft has introduced in Word 2013. The source code is available on GitHub.

2. An authoring tool primarily for the interactive use case, for non-technical authors. This authoring tool completely hides the scary XML (but assumes a fixed XML format). See further GitHub; the installer is this executable https://github.com/plutext/OpenDoPE-NoX ... n-1_20.exe

You seem to have found an old obsolete addin.
